George Street, a central artery in Dunedin, had become tired and needed revitalisation. The Dunedin City Council envisioned a welcoming streetscape prioritising people and community interaction. ENI Manufacturing partnered with the project team to bring this vision to life. Working alongside the Jasmax, Isaac Construction and Lucas Haining teams, we designed, engineered, built, and installed various interactive and functional elements, including custom-designed seesaws, shade canopies, talk tubes, and platform seating. These elements work together to encourage interaction, provide shelter and comfort to pedestrians, and enhance the visual appeal of the area. The bright yet tasteful palette of blue, yellow, and green creates a lively atmosphere, enhancing the street’s playful nature while maintaining a cohesive look. Safety and usability were central to our approach. Extensive lighting was incorporated with various colour schemes and “pulsing” effects to enhance the evening ambiance, improving both visibility and safety. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. The upgraded George Street is now a more engaging, safe, and enjoyable place for everyone. The George Street upgrade showcases ENI Manufacturing’s ability to blend innovation, quality, and a human-centred approach. By placing people at the heart of our designs, we’ve transformed a beloved street into a dynamic public space, underscoring our dedication to excellence and community impact.

“The culmination of the George Street upgrade brings an immense sense of pride and belonging to everyone – mana whenua, residents, and manuhiri – to see our shared histories celebrated in a unique and inclusive way.”
